Poor posture, long working hours either working at a desk or focused activities such as playing an instrument can cause neck pain. A common cause of neck pain is osteoarthritis which can be a higher majority of people older than age 50, the discs between the vertebrae become less spongy and provide less of a cushion.
It is uncommon for neck pain to be a symptom of a more serious problem. If you notice numbness in the hands or loss of strength and muscle in the upper body, or if pain shoots into a shoulder or down a hand then it is advised that you seek medical care.
At Prana Sports Injury Clinic, we understand how frustrating neck pain can be, particularly when it begins to affect your movement, work, training, sleep or everyday activities.
Neck pain can develop for many reasons, including muscular and joint problems, training-related injuries, changes in activity, or persistent movement restrictions. Symptoms may remain around the neck and shoulders or, in some cases, extend into the arm.
Our approach starts with a comprehensive assessment to understand your symptoms, movement, strength and the factors that may be contributing to your problem. From there, we’ll develop an individual treatment and rehabilitation plan based around your needs and goals.
Treatment may combine exercise rehabilitation, strengthening, mobility work and manual therapy, with techniques such as sports massage, dry needling or acupuncture used where appropriate.
Our aim is to help you manage your symptoms, restore comfortable movement and build the strength and confidence to return to the activities that matter to you.
